ONE of the great things about music, especially bluegrass music, is the community around it. Listen to or better yet come pick at one of the local open jams for a taste. Turn to the local public radio station, KGNU for pointers to all the jams and local events, presented by announcer, pickin' pal, singer and songwriter Buck Buckner. http://www.kgnu.org/bucksbluegrass.htmlHave you checked out the MusicBadger yet? You can get live mp3 files of our Boulder Theater show here for free, and lots of other good stuff. Another good resource for the regional music scene is the Denver Boulder Music calendar (www.denverbouldermusic.com). And one of the great folks responsible for getting the acts on the stage is Michigan Mike.
If acoustic bluegrass funkjazz polyrythmic is your kind of music, it is a good time to be alive right here in Boulder county, Colorado. The home of Hot Rize and Leftover Salmon has spawned the Yonder Mountain String Band, String Cheese Incident, Wendy Woo, the Danny Shafer Band, Tony Furtado, Acoustic Junction, Laughing Hands, Runaway Truck Ramp, the Flood Plain Gang, and gangs more. Songwriters like Benny Galloway call this place home. It's just incredible, and that's only the locals! there's a bumper crop in other genres too.
